interviewed there and spoke about that with them - they don't specifically target it or see it as a requirement, but it just so happens that a lot of their hires have that background. A bunch without is as well though
My sense of the firm is they are really quite excellent. Look for anything that makes money in any style, and fit it to the risk limits as best they can. Also why they have the "children's fund" for longer term picks.
Really humble people and quite gracious and nice, even if it looks/feels like a pedigreed tower on the hill
Yeah basically a pod shop, with great culture, a central LO book, low turnover, holding period of >1 year allowed, negotiable factor neutrality sometimes, one team per super sector. Definitely just another pod shop
Do they hire undergrads? Believe have seen a few of them on Linkedin but not sure if its just one off nepo. They do seem to have a consistent sophomore SA program though.
Regarding the sophomore SA program, seems like they just take ivies or competitive students with a clear interest/strength in investing (investment competitions, investment clubs, etc.). The program seems extremely competitive (taking 1-4 per year), and it seems to have phenomenal training/exit ops.
Solid performance since inception. Strong returns every year (they were up in ‘18 which gives you perspective on how air tight the process is). Dig around google and you’ll find more color.
I’ve heard good things about Holocene, especially in terms of the culture being collaborative and low-key. The work-life balance seems solid compared to some other firms in the industry, and they seem to value intellectual curiosity. As for comp, it’s competitive, but you won’t be pulling the crazy hours you might at some of the bigger players.

heard good all on all the dimensions you asked about
Taking a look at their analysts it looks like the pod bois are just as much prestige whores as the tiger cubs. Lots of 2+2s

how much aum?
Use search function.
Basically pod shop

Never heard of a single central book running neutral, how does that work?
They have 1 PM per sector, which makes them quite different from most pod shops.
Med tech/ healthcare services/ diagnostics all count as different sectors or all considered HC?
it just means one persons (pm) "owns" every single ticker, with no overlap
no one else is fighting you over coverage (and therefore pnl, corp access, etc) on any single ticker
Guy who was hiring gone in 6 months "good culture" :)

How do talent and comp compare with other pod style funds like candlestick, woodline, anomaly, junto?
It's pod-like but very good.
does pod style get a rep for not being good / worse?
what do historical returns look like?

I'm an LP, returns have been exceptional
ITD annualized at low-mid teens (12-14%) net with a sharpe >1.5; SPX correlation has been like -5%. pretty stellar
helpful
