Thoughts on Martin Shkreli?

Aside from the controversy over Daraprim, what is your guys opinion on him? He claims he used to be quite big on wall street, and claims to have connections with many big players in the HF and finance world. My biggest question, as a high schooler who has not really been in a wall street/finance environment yet, is his claim that wall street has adopted his method of financial modeling. Is this true, or is he BSing?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Martin Shkreli is a polarizing figure, primarily known for his controversial actions in the pharmaceutical industry, particularly with Daraprim. While he has claimed to have been influential on Wall Street and to have introduced financial modeling methods that were widely adopted, there is no substantial evidence or widespread acknowledgment within the finance community to support these claims.

Shkreli's reputation in finance and hedge funds is overshadowed by his legal troubles and public persona. While he did work in hedge funds and had some success, his claims about revolutionizing financial modeling are often viewed skeptically. Wall Street is a highly competitive and innovative environment, and any groundbreaking modeling method would typically be well-documented and widely discussed in the industry. His assertions seem more like self-promotion than a reflection of actual industry impact.

For someone like you, a high schooler interested in finance, it's essential to focus on learning proven and widely respected financial modeling techniques. Resources like the WSO Financial Modeling Series, which includes lessons on DCF, M&A, LBO, and more, are excellent starting points to build a solid foundation.

I can’t really explain it, but here is a video where he kind of goes over it. I assumed that this was just the default and common way of doing it but then he claimed that wall street adopted this technique from him.

I guess I don't see him much different than your typical burnt out banker / analyst now streaming. Henry Chein (kind of alt-right lol but still interesting), Brett Caughran, and dozens of others are similar if not much, much better. Shkreli is sort of a Prometheus to reddit monkeys because in the jungles they grew up in, all they know are the myths and promises of "technical analysis".

Shkreli is 10x your iq and net worth. He's severely autistic and arrogant, that's why he was arrested and why he's not a billionaire a few times over. Obviously, his current videos are aimed at promoting his new software to retail, so he doesn't need funding to go institutional. It is just a far shittier version of BB rn but I'm excited to see where he takes it. His old intro to finance courses are much better than anything you would get at any top university, though you prob would've been better off listening to that than the burnt-out investment banker teaching your corp fin.

You have no idea what my net worth or iq is—I could be just as autistic, you simp. I am glad you found a lot of value in his old videos, it’s a shame he didn’t make one on not being such a c*nt.

Shkreli’s videos are literally him painfully typing in  basic unintegrated statements while skimming through the 10-k. This is a high school finance club’s level of effort.
