3 Alternative Investments for the Wealthy

Read this a few days ago and wanted to see WSO opinions. If you had half a billion or more would you invest in these or something else?

"The ultra-rich, also known as ultra high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs), are people defined as having net worths of at least $30 million. Ultra-rich people normally have similar mixes of investments in their investment portfolios."

Good call! One of our clients knows a little girl that created a 3-D prosthetic leg for a classmate, now some biotech company is about to take that idea to make it cheaper and faster processing (forgot the name). 3-D printing is the future!!

Ultra high end resi RE is more of a look at how rich I am and how my penis doesn't work without pills anymore thing rather than a real investment. Or for certain nationals with less than stable politics (China, Russia) a way to park money. Yes it can appreciate in value but there's negative cash flow (taxes, opex & maintenance) and no rent. And they're pretty illiquid, and they tend to be the least liquid when you really want to sell them (08-09). I'd much rather buy a $20MM solid class B multi family than a $20MM NYC condo or place in the Hamptons if it's an investment.

HF's and PE is nothing new and nearly every hnw has been in them for years.
