2024 Class Size
I know it’s a bad job market but does anybody know if 2024 SA and FT classes are smaller than normal? If so by how much?
For context, I got to a semi-target and feel like we massively under placed this year.

Yes, they are smaller, but how much depends on firm. My target school has placed worse than last year, think it's across the board.
Bump
Feels like they are much smaller
It feels like they are significantly smaller- does anyone think this means they open up applications again in the fall if the m&a market picks back up?
Probably not, banks would rather hire analysts so they can hit the desk right away, not wait for 2024 summer to start so we can probably fuck up every assignment that comes our way
After speaking with the incoming class, I can safely say the class of 2024 is too large.
Agreed, market conditions aren’t improving and my firm is taking on quite a bit of An/Aso in that class
as above, also feels smaller class sizes + timelines were faster for SA.
but can anyone in-the-know substantiate this? for instance, are classes 80-90% smaller relative to previous years?
(Confidential) some firms', like SVB's, class sizes are allegedly 100% smaller than previous years
definitely not 80-90% but i’m guessing 30-40%, just based upon the fact that almost no nondiversity kids at my target got top BB offers (ie. no room left)
If i had to guess, anywhere from 20-50% smaller. I go to a non target and we placed so bad this year, about 60% down from previous years. All good tho
Diversity recruiting was very good at my school. Seems like everyone has picked up the recruiting cheat code. Non-Diverse was tough.
Ya same with my school, diverse students placed well, but non diverse is looking semi tough rn
Diverse students will be fine. Non diverse tough luck
I go to a top target which usually places 10-15 people between GS & MS. This year we have 3.
3 including diversity? Jeez thats low. If its non div only 3, that is still low
Which top target? Also at one and am curious to compare notes
In Energy Coverage and our hiring has been the same ~10 summer analysts
How will this impact return rates for 2023 summer analysts?
At my EB we increased 24 class size but respectfully we are drowning in work and need more junior heads so, not a hard and fast rule across the board.
Centerview correct? I heard their class size is much bigger according to people at my target school (they only took 1)
Could be PWP…They took 6(!) from Indiana for SA24 NY.
According to analyst alum from my school, should be around 30–same as 2023
GS and BofA NYC offices had less than 10% of superdays get offers, which is much lower than in years past. I suspect this is due to smaller class sizes.
Jefferies trimmed substantially.
It has been a brutal recruiting cycle.
Less than 10%? That's brutal...
Yes absolutely smaller. Citi London has 30 SA in IBD down from 60 last year, and CM has 13, I believe
