2027 recruiting cycle

Hi! I am a upcoming sophmore and I had a couple questions about when 2027 summer recruiting is happening. Some people are saying that it is done and some people are saying that it is in session and I don’t know who is right. I am mostly looking for IB, PE and wealth management Internships and have an offer for this summer (2026) for a low mid market M&A advisory firm. I am also at a non target. I just wanted to know how I can navigate this summer and the things I can do to get a summer 2027 internship offer.

For the 2027 summer recruiting cycle, here's what you need to know based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Recruiting Timeline:

    • Investment Banking (IB) summer analyst recruiting has been trending earlier each year. For 2027, it's likely that the process for many firms has already started or is in progress. Bulge Bracket (BB) and Elite Boutique (EB) banks often begin recruiting as early as the spring or summer two years prior to the internship (i.e., spring/summer 2025 for summer 2027 internships).
    • Some firms may still have openings or ongoing processes, especially for non-core schools or specific divisions. Keep an eye on application portals and networking opportunities.
  2. Your Current Position:

    • Having an offer for summer 2026 at a low mid-market M&A advisory firm is a great start. Use this opportunity to build relevant skills, such as financial modeling, valuation, and deal experience. These will be critical talking points during interviews for 2027 roles.
    • Since you're at a non-target school, networking will be crucial. Leverage LinkedIn, alumni connections, and cold emails to build relationships with professionals at your target firms.
  3. Steps to Navigate This Summer:

    • Excel in Your Internship: Make a strong impression at your current firm. Seek out meaningful work, ask for feedback, and aim to get a strong recommendation.
    • Build Technical Skills: If you haven't already, consider taking financial modeling courses or using resources like WSO's financial modeling templates to sharpen your skills.
    • Network Aggressively: Use your internship as a conversation starter when reaching out to professionals. Attend industry events, virtual webinars, and coffee chats to expand your network.
    • Prepare for Interviews: Start practicing for technical and behavioral interviews. Resources like WSO's IB Prep Pack can be invaluable for this.
  4. Targeting 2027 Offers:

    • Begin applying as soon as applications open. Many firms operate on a rolling basis, so applying early can increase your chances.
    • Focus on firms that actively recruit from non-target schools or have diversity programs that align with your background.
    • Consider applying to a mix of BB, EB, and strong middle-market firms to maximize your chances.

By excelling in your current internship, networking strategically, and preparing early, you'll position yourself well for a summer 2027 internship.
