400Q Guide wrong awnser?
How do you value a private company?
• A DCF gets tricky because a private company doesn’t have a market capitalization or Beta – you would probably just estimate WACC based on the public comps’ WACC rather than trying to calculate it.
Is that actually a problem? I mean in practice you most likely would arrive at beta by looking at the beta of comps, right?
There is even another 400Qs Q, on how to calculate beta and the awnser is the following: You look up the Beta for each Comparable Company (usually on Bloomberg), un-lever each one, take the median of the set and then lever it based on your company’s capital structure. Then you use this Levered Beta in the Cost of Equity calculation.
What's the problem with now for a private company?
