ABL/ABF Recruiting Timelines
Curious if anyone has any color on asset backed lending and asset backed finance recruiting timelines. Been in ABS banking for a little over a year at a BofA/DB/Gugg covering esoterics. Seems to me that even at the MF level most recruiting occurs off cycle. Would love to hear some recruiting stories and timelines, can leave fund name out but size would be helpful
Based on the most helpful WSO content, recruiting timelines for Asset-Backed Lending (ABL) and Asset-Backed Finance (ABF) roles, especially at the MF level, tend to be less structured and often occur off-cycle. This aligns with broader trends in specialized finance roles like ABS banking.
For example, in related areas like debt funds or direct lending, timelines can vary significantly. Some firms hire 12-15 months in advance, while others wait until closer to the need, such as 9 months or even in the Spring. This variability is common in niche finance roles, where hiring is often driven by specific needs rather than a rigid annual cycle.
If you're targeting MF-level roles, it's advisable to network early and stay proactive, as opportunities may arise unpredictably. Sharing your background in esoterics at a top-tier bank like BofA/DB/Gugg could position you well, but direct outreach and registering interest with funds you're targeting can be crucial.
