Accepting a Summer Analyst Offer with No Intention of Accepting a Return Offer
I have received an offer from a BB for an IBD SA 2021 position. I also have accepted a FT offer at a buyside firm that starts after the SA role finishes.
I have no intention of accepting a return offer from the BB if I were to get one. I am doing the SA purely for IB experience and as an insurance in case something disastrous happens to my FT offer.
In this case, is accepting the SA offer unethical?
are you a senior?
I am in my final year
Why would it be? You're not stealing a spot, if you decline the return and the bank still needs FT analysts then they will just recruit. Just as the bank is not required to give a return you're not obliged to accept one. Don't worry about it you're in a great spot.
Thanks! I was just thinking that it could be argued that I am wasting the bank's resources as the internship is supposed to be a part of their FT recruitment pipeline (and I have no intention of being recruited FT).
I just hope this doesn't come and bite me in the ass later haha
who cares about their resources, they have plenty of money
What kind of buyside role did you accept?
L/S HF
Multi manager?
I don’t think so. You earned I’m the SA role and may end up taking a FT position if something were to happen. You owe it to nobody to not take advantage of the opportunity, congrats!
This is more common then you’d expect, you’re fine
Think about it is as an insurance policy just in case the buyside firm pulls their offer.
