Accidentally sent a rude email to HR

I had a first round interview with HR at an EB earlier this week and just received an email now from the HR representative I interviewed with saying they enjoyed speaking with me and would like to invite me to the 2nd stage and asked if I would be around Monday at ** time for a zoom with the team.

I was very busy when I saw the email and was in a conference call but I didn’t want to leave HR hanging so I quickly just sent:

’Hi - that works, thanks.’

I’ve now realised how rude my response was, especially how friendly their email was.. I never said anything polite like ‘i enjoyed speaking with you too’ and never said thank you for their time or for inviting me to the next stage.

could this ruin my chances now? Would they now view me as rude?

Hi Analyst 3+ in IB - Ind,

Thank you so much for your interest in the Investment Banking position at EB. We appreciate you taking the time to interview with our team.

At this time, we have chosen to proceed with another candidate who has more leadership experience. However, we were impressed with your background and industry knowledge and feel you would be a great culture fit for our company.

We will be posting a other positions in the coming weeks, and hope you’ll consider applying again. Otherwise, we wish you the best of luck in your career endeavors.

Regards,

The HR Team you sent "Hi - that works, thanks." to

Maybe I’ve been working in IB/PE too long, but that wouldn’t even strike me as rude personally. I get/send about 20-30 emails exactly like that everyday - to me it’s not rude just efficient, which is what most IB people care about.

I guess HR could be a bit different - but what you have to remember is HR in this position have very little involvement in the decision making. In this scenario they have obviously been tasked with setting up interviews for candidates, so their role is really just to forward emails/coordinate a time. If anything your quick response is probably a plus for them - as the most difficult thing for them would be if you left them hanging (bankers’ time is very valuable/difficult to come by from HR’s perspective).

I know it’s natural to overthink everything during the application process, but as someone who has interviewed candidates (and liaised with HR to set up interviews) I really think you have nothing to worry about here.

So my advice - forget this completely, and get prepping for your interview! Good luck

Caucasity Exhibit A: Sends rude email to someone he thinks is beneath him; suddenly comes to the crushing realization that it might damage his own self interest but is assuaged by the fact that the person he slighted is only a peon so it might not.

Try not being a douche, honkey.

I did the same thing I thought he was gonna day “I apologized by sending a face pic and forgot I was naked”
