Accounting and finance or financial planning ?

Hi. I am 16 and studying 11th commerce in India. My dream job is becoming investment banker. I have decided to go to Canada for my further education. I dont have enough funds for studying at university, so I have decided to study at the top college of Canada ie Seneca College. I am getting two programs there relating to finance field :-

1) Advance diploma in accounting and finance

2) Advance diploma in financial planning

I am more interested towards financial planning but my end goal is investment banking. So, what would be the most relevant course for investment banking out of these courses. I will complete my bcom in financial planning/accounting and finance, after getting PR.

It's great that you have a clear career goal in mind and are proactive about pursuing education to help you achieve it. Both the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Finance and the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning could potentially be relevant for a career in investment banking, as they both cover topics that are important in the finance field.

The Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Finance will give you a strong foundation in accounting principles and practices, which can be useful in investment banking as many financial transactions and decisions involve accounting considerations. The program may also cover topics such as financial analysis, business law, and financial management, which can be useful in an investment banking career.

The Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning will focus more specifically on financial planning and analysis, and may cover topics such as investment principles, risk management, and financial planning for individuals and businesses. This program could be particularly relevant for a career in investment banking, as investment bankers often advise clients on financial planning and investment strategies.

Ultimately, the most relevant course for investment banking will depend on your individual interests and goals. If you are more interested in financial planning, the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning may be the better fit for you. However, if you are interested in both financial planning and accounting, you may want to consider combining the two programs or taking both to give yourself a well-rounded education in finance. It may also be helpful to speak with an academic advisor or a career counselor to get more personalized advice on which program would be the best fit for your goals.

nobody is going to tell him?

colleges in Canada are equivalent to technical colleges in US. No IB ever recruits from there.

There is only one Bcom program that IB recruits from and it is expensive.

you are better off doing a career in financial planning, minimal stress, normal hours and decent comp.

Going to be brutally honest here, unfortunately getting into IB from Seneca is going to be almost impossible. If money is the issue but grades / getting in aren't I'd recommend waiting to go to University for a year and working to save up for school. In general there aren't that many IB jobs in Canada relative to the US which makes recruiting very difficult if you don't go to one of the top 5-6 schools (Queens / Ivey / Schulich / Laurier / UBC / McGill).
