Accounting and IB.

Is it possible for an accountant to work in IB?

I have been on this accounting profession for like 2 years now and it hasn't been an easy journey.

Although that doesn't matter cause whatever I see being under a manager who is your relative is so fvcked up😂(especially if it's a lady) and don't call me a misogynist but my hate for women in power came since the time of Adam and Eve.(some wome are such AH's)

I'm not gonna lie though, I wanna switch my and take a different path of IB, but my question is...is it even possible for an accountant to become an IB and where should I start and what should I take?

Don’t listen to this guy. You have lots of opportunities to transition. I’ll name a few: get into a Valuations or M&A FDD (TAS) role at a large accounting firm which will allow to have skills more relevant to IB and potentially allow you to upgrade to a MM IB at some point, and/or get an MBA at a Top 15 program and then start as an IB Summer Associate. Other options to be more fulfilled are to try to break into the strategy sides of the big4, or try to break into a RX consulting role, which frequently interview ambitious accountants.

Yeah but the "other options" you listed are pretty damn hard (bordering on a moonshot for someone coming from pure trad accounting). The more attainable one would be strat at B4, but even that's really hard, the mindsets are very different. RX consulting is even harder; the ones who made the jump are either 1) the absolute best that B4 has to offer, and more likely to be from TAS or some other more relevant group or 2) part of the first batch of restructuring consultants at the firm, as most RX consulting firms started out of B4.

In all honesty, the easiest would be to jump into TAS at the acct firm and then go MBA and start from there.

Yea, but if you make it seem impossible for some people, then they won’t even bother trying. This is obviously a guy sick of where he’s at with his career and needing a more fulfilling and rewarding role. I gave all of the options knowing that there would be someone else to speak to the hardship of exiting ACCT into more prestigious roles. And, for some reason, everyone seems to have the mindset that accountants are useless on here. Not an accountant myself, but feel their skillsets could potentially be valuable for Finance roles. I just don’t want to also spread the narrative that if you’re a career accountant then you’re doomed, because there’s enough of that on this forum to go around.
