Advice Needed! [Exit Opportunities for Acquisition Financing / IB at a Balance Sheet Bank]
Hello Wall Street Oasis-
It is the end of my first year in a decently niche generalist role at a large commercial bank so I wanted to get some advice / a feel for what good exit opportunities might be. For clarity:
- The firm calls it IB but it is moreso corporate banking. (not advisory exactly- it is marketing the ability for the shop to use its BS to finance large M&A)
- In these pitches my desk finds the client's debt capacity for an acquisition, usually with thresholds pertaining to credit ratings and capital structure (usually building financial models 5yr out)
- After this pre-deal marketing phase, my team usually does not support anything throughout the regular deal timeline. So I am concerned I am not gaining any execution experience
- Product / coverage agnostic, supporting the coverage teams in these areas
- Very technical / excel heavy, with very few hours relative to advisory IB (I typically work 70 hours a week)
This is more of a corporate banking role, but I feel like I want more, and I would love to gauge what is in the possible (PC or PE) or if I should re-enter the workforce in more typical IB if possible.
Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I think you can easily sell this role as levfin / dcm to recruit for PC. PE is unlikely unless you do sponsor-backed deals
Hey I appreciate the feedback, thanks. Quick follow up
I actually happen to have some sponsor financings on my resume, one being an LBO. Do you think I could spin this for a PE opportunity?
Thanks again
