Advice on NYU Stern MS in Accounting or UW foster

I am a recent graduate (non target) with 2 experience at a Big 4 firm in tax and an investment banking internship at a startup firm,  deals size are under $25M. Later in 2024 I reached the final round of interviews for six middle-market IB summer analyst roles but, unfortunately, didn’t receive an offer. After that, I started applying to Big 4 TS teams— even audit or tax—just trying to land a job and work the way out.

My ultimate goal is still to break into investment banking. I know it’s hard, but I don’t want to give up.

The job market in 2024 and 2025 has been really tough. After going through 20+ interviews without an offer, I applied to two Master’s in Accounting programs—NYU Stern and UW Foster. I’ve received offers from both. Foster would only cost around $25K, while Stern is significantly more expensive.

I’m leaning toward Stern because of the name, networking, and recruiting opportunities. But I’ve read that an MS in Accounting doesn’t help much when it comes to breaking into IB. Is that true? I feel that Foster could at least help me get interviews for Big 4 TS/FDD or valuation roles with way cheaper cost, and I could work my way toward IB from there. Looking for help and advice, thanks !

Can go anywhere from anywhere so don’t think you’d be stuck to one specific thing bc of your school. That being said, stern name is valuable and you’d be surprised at what it can open.

My advice would be to go with your gut bc only you know your personal situation and deep reasons for wanting one over the other.
