Am I crazy for applying for an Assoc position with 8 months AN1 experience?

As a CIB Front Office/Middle Office Analyst with 8 months of experience, I’m considering a lateral move to a Front Office role.

An internal Associate position has opened on a Sales team, and the job description doesn’t specify prior experience or minimum work terms. I’ve received a top rating in my performance review. Could my limited experience lead to an automatic rejection? Would such a rejection negatively impact my chances if I apply for a similar position in a year’s time? I’m not familiar with the trend of vague job descriptions that emphasize qualities like “team player” instead of specifying “mandatory experience in the field of application.” Any insights would be appreciated.

You probably won't get the job as an Associate because banks are extremely hierarchical environments. That said you could definitely end up on the team + have similar responsibilities, just with a different title. I've certainly hired for roles in the past where "the right" candidate was a touch more junior than I was initially considering. And either way, no reason that being proactive and expressing interest should hurt your chances for the future.

If you are middle office analyst now, you won’t have a chance as a front office associate. More likely to harm your chances for the future.
