AN1 thinking of doing a masters in finance for a career and mindset reset
- I just graduated from a well regarded public college (c/o 2020) and started my job as a banking analysts at august (2020) in a location that I hate with a bank I don’t like in an industry group I don’t particularly like either.
- I didn’t do too hot in undergrad as well, scraped out with a 3.1 and was generally not focused during my time. Great experience but unfocused - yet managed to land an IB job in a top city.
- I like banking, I’m good at what I do so far 6mos in and I think honestly I’m just leaving a lot of value on the table with my shitty undergrad GPA. I have sort of a cold chip on my shoulder too from my lack of focus in undergrad and i know that directly correlated into my taking of the mediocre (for my ambitions) IB job I have.
- I’m wondering if an MsF is a good idea to do a complete reset of my analyst career, my mindset and get over that undergrad GPA stigma I have deep inside. I’m also finding that my GPA is causing insecurity with lateral recruiting and some prelim buyside talks I’ve had.
- Upon completion of the MSF I’d be re-recruiting for IB, I guess (as a first year analyst again?) to get another shot at on campus recruitment. The more I think about it, the more dumb this might sound (why don’t I just lateral?) but to be honest I want to right my wrongs from shitting off in college.
- I don’t even know when MSF apps are due as this just came as a thought I had tonight & wanted to test the waters on what people think about this topic. Thankfully, I’m not hurting for money either so that isn’t an issue for me.
