Analyst Pulling for Students
I go to a finance-heavy school (think Wharton/Princeton) ad I've begun reaching out to a good number of analysts and one or two associates (5-6 at BB, 1-3 from EB), but haven't moved up to the VP/MDs yet, since it is early.
Does anyone know if analysts/associates have the pull to decide first round/superdays for GS/MS, and what about the EBs like EVR/CVP/MOE/LAZ? Feel like my conversations have gone well for the most part, but I've just begun following up to be internally recommended (but somewhat low success so far).
Analysts and associates can indeed have some influence in the recruiting process, but their pull is generally limited compared to VPs and MDs. Here's a breakdown based on the most helpful WSO content:
Bulge Bracket Banks (GS/MS):
Elite Boutiques (EVR/CVP/MOE/LAZ):
Tips to Improve Success: - Continue building relationships with analysts and associates, but start reaching out to VPs and MDs as well. Their recommendations carry more weight. - When following up, make your ask clear and concise. For example, express your interest in the firm and politely inquire if they would be willing to recommend you for the process. - Reference specific conversations or insights you’ve gained from your networking to demonstrate genuine interest and preparation.
Networking is a long game, so keep at it and diversify your outreach to include both junior and senior professionals.

Congrats on Princeton!
Princeton is a great school bruh
Everyone does it differently, every school does it differently, and every year they do it differently. Unfortunately you just have to assume you have nothing until the first round interview invite comes
