Annual Review Guidance

Rounding out my first year and have my annual review scheduled this week with my two VPs and Senior Associate. We had some turnover at the junior level in early January and the whole first half of this year has been insanely busy to say the least. Generally our group has a very strong and supportive culture and we are encouraged to communicate openly and regularly check in on how we are doing. The team is aware I’ve been getting rocked picking up the slack where we needed additional support but I’m not sure they know to the extent.

I know that they will be communicating my bonus during the meeting and am feeling worried that I won’t necessarily be compensated fairly. When they ask how i feel about the number, is it appropriate to be candid and honest? My gut tells me that I should just keep my mouth shut if I am unhappy but at the same time I cannot justify staying under the same circumstances if I don’t get paid. Is there a general rule of thumb on etiquette? Any guidance and perspective is appreciated
