BIWS has a good course on FIG (even their free sample materials are quite handy). If you cover banks, I would also recommend reading through Basel 3 or whatever capital/liquidity regulation applies in the US. It's tedious but will give you a good understanding of the environment in which banks do business.

There is a "Bank 101" Primer from DB floating around on the internet.

Hi,
I have an interview coming up for a position covering FIG but personally I have no prior FIG exp.
Would love to check if someone currently or previously working in the FIG team or covering FIG at PE/HF has a bible book on FIG or FIG 101 for me to take a read?
Please feel free to contact me through PM.
Thanks a lot.

Also, M&I covers some of the basics which you can referrence from investopedia. Believe there was also a seriese on here (WSO), regarding FIG analysis, but can't seem to find it (perhaps you can with a little searching).
EDIT: Just found it; //www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/evaluating-commercial-banks-earnings-par…

Advice on FIG reading list (Originally Posted: 05/17/2017)
Hi All,
I will be interning with FIG this summer and I am wondering if anyone has recommendations regarding reading material that may give me a better idea on how financial institutions work, as well as their current outlook. I have been surfing online, but I figure it can't hurt to see if anyone here has good sources, online or in paper. I appreciate the guidance. Celtics in 7.

If you can afford it I would strongly advise you to get a FIG modeling course. Banks model very diferently and have different drivers than any other type of company, and it is tough to pick up on the fly
At a bare minimum understand Regulatory capital requirement, Tier 1 vs Tier 2, risk weighting of assets, interest rate spreads, Federal funds, charge off allowances, and what BASEL/ Dodd Frank are.
