Applying FT after SA

Hey guys,

I have the opportunity to intern at a MM Tech boutique in London next Summer (Arma, GP Bullhound, Torch, etc). I am extremely grateful for this opportunity as recruiting has been extremely challenging this year. However, tech is just not a sector that I am interested in long term.

I am just wondering what recruiting for FT Positions is like (in terms of recruiting at BBs and EBs; difficulty, opportunities, etc) after a Summer at a MM shop  and also if the tech specific nature of the SA would limit my grad opportunities.

Thanks

From personal experience this year, there are not many opportunities at all, and the few ones available are extremely competitive.

You might get lucky (like I did) and get a top FT offer at another bank next year, but I wouldn't be too sure about it.

What I might recommend is that you start networking with people in your target banks, so that they will remember you when FT recruiting comes. Having secured a summer internship gives you some kind of credibility already, so it should be easier to network.

Also, make sure to get a return offer at your MM Tech boutique. When you recruit for FT, they always ask you about conversion.

Best of luck!

Thank you for the response and congrats on the offer. I'll make sure to go into the internship with an open mind so I can do my best and get the return offer. Also, I know this is a bit anecdotal, but I heard that networking isn't too effective for a lot of the firms, at least at the SA level, is that quite different for the FT roles?

Definitely different at FT level, as the bank has not had the chance to test your technical/social skills during SA

Additionally, there are referral programs for FT positions, which is not always the case for SA internships.
