Are all your materials standardized?
Are materials that go out to clients/investors at your firm fairly standardized (i.e. pitch decks, CIPs, models, etc.)?
I'm a first-year analyst at a middle-market firm that has minimal standardization in its materials. A pitch deck from one MD will look completely different from another's. Same with CIP's, models, etc. I've found it extremely frustrating as I work with new MD's and I prepare materials the only way I've been shown. Then I get reamed with comments and frustration because the structure I am doing it is not how the MD likes, even though it's exactly the way I did it on a previous deal. I've started referencing past materials for the MD but even so feel like deal teams are losing efficiency by having so much variability in the structure of materials.
Curious if other firms in the middle market operate like well-oiled machines or if materials largely depend on the MD's style.
Depends on the Tier of Bank You are at. I have seen LMM shops run with a different style per MD and then I have seen banks usually hire MM standardized materials. I think the biggest factor for this is does your bank home grow Directors. Then the materials will stay rather similar.
Depends how big the shop is. I'm currently at a MM, and everything is standardized, no matter what deal I'm on with different MDs. Our deals are in the 500mm-2bn range. Smaller LMM firms that don't have as much structure / formalized process will most likely have less standardization for decks
