Are chinos appropriate for a business casual environment?
Hi everyone,
I will be starting my internship at the Fed soon and I wanted to know if chinos were appropriate. The recruiter who spoke to me said that the dress code is business casual. However, there will be instances where we have to dress business formal. I saw a picture from the previous group where students either had slacks and a shirt or a sport shirt(Oxford button down or small checks) and chinos. I want to prepare now since I start in February.
Should be fine with Chinos, the issue is the shoes. I would recommend you don't wear boat shoes if you're going to go with Chinos since that will risk making you look too casual. If you do Chinos, go with a casual pair of Cole Haans or J&Ms.
Ok that sounds good. I was planning on buying them from Banana republic since they're dressier.
As for the shoes, I have a few pairs of AEs that I will wear with them. One is a semi brogue cap toe oxford and the other is an oxblood cap toe oxford. I also have some Sebago loafers that I plan to wear in the spring/summer.
ASOS has really comfy/affordable/good fitting "suit pants" that they call the ASOS smart trouser. I started at my BC dress code job with chinos and didn't like the texture or look and moved onto those. Maybe a little bit more formal but with no tie/jacket or maybe sleeves rolled up you'll be able to down play them
