Banking in Houston that's NOT energy?

Can we get a comprehensive list of places that are not solely focused on Energy / O&G?

I want to lateral to Houston (personal / family ties) but do not want to pigeon hole myself into energy at all (also don't have any interest). I have a background in food & bev and general industrials.

I would like to stay in banking regardless of the firm's size as long as it's not energy.

Damn, that's a shame. Just frustrated that no one can understand a simple request for info. Instead the first comments are "go to Dallas" like I don't know that Dallas is less energy focused.

Just because I'm from Houston doesn't mean I understand the finance scene indepth and know all the small boutiques (as mentioned I don't care about size) that don't focus on energy.

People aren't being rude, they are telling you the reality and you are being vicious to people taking time to help you. If you already know everything, don't ask for advice on here.

There are approximately 2-3 non-energy IB firms and they are all DEEP in the lowest of the middle market and may still do energy deals.

There are some small hedge funds and PE firms I would look into instead.

Hello, I just came across this thread. I’m currently still a student but interested in banking. I have family ties to Texas so considering that as a place to trying to get internship / move full time. Alongside other major cities. Would love to get your thoughts on finance landscape in Texas, especially comparing the different opportunities in each city.

I know it's energy focused. I am from Houston.

I don't have enough fingers to count all the friends I have at various BBs and UMM banks in Houston. Yes, they are in energy groups.

There are 100% non-energy focused groups in Houston though, I just don't know them all. That's precisely why I suggested we start a comprehensive list. Instead I get a bunch of smart asses telling a native Texan that Houston is energy focused. Must be a bunch of bottom-tier analysts because they clearly did not understand the request.

You asked something stupid as fuck and then got mad when you got an anwer lmao. I don't want you anywhere near my bank. Please say other stupid shit so you can give yourself away and we can all spread you around as a joke. thx

I know Scotia has P&U, MUFG has sponsor finance and direct lending, Moelis has Greentech, Jeff has energy transition, and select few have project finance(socgen, maybe MUFG, others). I'm sure there's boutiques with more but that's all I can think of top of head.

There's a lot more options across Dallas (Healthcare, RE, PCA, Energy, TMT, FIG, P&U, Debt Advisory, Structured Products, ECM, Rx, prob more) and Austin (TMT, Consumer, RE, prob more).
