At a BB yes it is. Asssuming you are a good worker and they know that.

Aside, CM isnt in IB at all banks. At Baml it is seperate, at JPM it is together. Moving between groups is very common in both.

 
CatsLHPYou will be working directly with the industry bankers if you are in ECM/DCM/LevFin so it should not be too hard, given that you are proficient at your job and well liked.

1) would you have to be in one of those three groups to do it? 2) what is the actual interaction with industry bankers? i've heard lots of conflicting advice on this front

Cap Markets usually refers to ECM/DCM/LevFin - that's it. There will be a ton of interaction - you need the product teams (ECM/DCM/LevFin/M&A) to execute the deal as much as you need the coverage teams.

Moving between them is pretty easy.
