BB IBD SA in Frankfurt --> BB IBD SA / FT in NYC

I'm enrolled in a Top 10 "Master in Finance"-Program in Europe and will graduate in the end of 2018. I will intern for a BB in Frankfurt this summer, however, my goal is to be based in NYC post-graduation (my gf lives there). I'm neither a US citizen nor a greencard holder.

Does anyone have experience transferring from IB mainland Europe to IB NYC? I have another summer ('18) before graduation so I'm considering talking to my employer in Frankfurt with regards to doing an internship in NYC in summer 2018 (and then hopefully leverage this in a FT position). Any advice is greatly appreciated

They are very unflexible in Frankfurt, I would recommend going for London and transfering after 1 year internal.

Don´t say this in a banking interview: Which superhero would you be and why? I want to be like Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor - me.

I agree that its super difficult to pull off before joining full time, both because Frankfurt does not have any say in NYC recruiting and because it is extremely hard to get a work Visa even if you get a NYC offer. A friend of mine interned at GS/MS/JP in Frankfurt and managed to get a full time offer at a EB (Evercore, Moelis, PWP) in New York - he was ultimately sent to the London office, however, as the US declined his Visa application despite having the EB sponsor him. His expectations are that he has do to 12-18 months in London before trying it again with a better chance for success, as the firm needs to argue that he is necessary for the US business (which is hard to argue for as a first year analyst...). My suggestion would be that you get into Frankfurt/London and rotate after finishing 1-2 years there; there a quite a few people that manage to switch to the New York, SanFran etc offices for the 3rd analyst year.

I can only confirm what the other two guys said, it is almost impossible to start as a FT analyst in the NYC office after an internship in Frankfurt. Not sure if they would send you to NYC for a second internship with the firm in 2018 though, might be feasible if you perform extremely well. If I was you, I would work hard to receive a FT offer for Frankfurt/London and then do a rotation in NYC during my 3rd year. I know quite some people who did that in the past...
