Best FIG teams?
Curious to hear what's the standing on the top FIG teams on the street? Historically GS was considered top notch but it seems like (backed by deal flow too) that JPM is in the same tier, and MS is also slowly catching up with them.
Is there a major different between each vertical in terms of ranking (banks vs insurance vs asset managers vs fintech)
1a- GS/JPM
1b- MS
2- Citi, BofA, Barc
3- EVR, LAZ
How are exits for tier 2 and 3 banks?
Non-GS/JP (and MS to an extent) BB FIG teams have considerably worse exits. You can still get a UMM (maybe, maybe MF FIG) but it will be an uphill battle vs their M&A/Sponsors counterparts who see more consistent UMM/MF exits
EVR/LAZ fig will get more looks than top Citi/BofA/Barc groups. Obviously harder to get into Evercore FIG than Citi or BofA M&A.
after these it gets very random and vertical dependent. PJT i would put in T2 or 3. Jefferies and PWP T3 as well
T4 is banks with dealflow like Piper, Wells, RBC.
RBC is Tier 1 for FIG
RBC >> MS GS
RBC FIG Tier 1
Any insight on RBC FIG platform? Looking to lateral
Read the RBC industrials thread - heard they were struggling in FIG
Get ready for tons on DCM memos..
Would consider boiling yourself in a vat of acid before joining them
RBC FIG is the best on the street!!!!!!!!!!!!
Terrible.
There might be a turning point.
Saw they hired a top Barclays banker as the FIG Vice Chairman. If he fires the shitty Global Head then maybe the group has a shot of surviving.
Hiring Barclays bankers worked great for UBS!
How is UBS FIG?
Somehow worse than RBC. UBS lost their entire insurance subvertical to RBC.
To Bofa, not RBC. Just 2 juniors that went to RBC
Just a shell left now
How many good MDs are left? Should I re-recruit?
Ft pays 140 base for first year analysts - look there
Not true anymore. They brought new classes back to 110K.
Depends on the vertical
It doesn’t matter where you go.. FIG is paradise.
easily KBW
Goldman and JPM are top for sure. They are pretty much on most major FIG deals across all verticals
What about Citi/Barc/BofA tier? After chats it seems like they are pretty busy as well?
For EMEA I see MS all the time on deals cf. Revolut, Monzo, Metro Bank, UBS / CS, etc.
does jpm fig have the same exits as gs fig if they’re the same tier
Exits are quite good (non-FIG MF is common) though not quite as good as GS FIG. That will probably change over time as the two groups converge in terms of HH perception
weird, my friends in the group are hearing crickets for MF coffee chats right now... M&A/HC getting invites.
recent exits (last ~2 years) from JPM FIG include BX TacOps, CVC, Carlyle, Surveyor Capital, TPG, Vista.... Not that bad
Do particular sub-verticals have stronger exits than others? Or generally the same
How is Wells FIG?
Is piper any good?
bump
.
Barclays in shambles
Can you please elaborate?
They lose so many senior people I hear
Lose a ton of seniors
