At the analyst level you are responsible for doing all of the “bitch work” of pitches and pricing. Associate is where the job gets interesting as you are still earning IB level comp, working 50-65 hours a week and not doing redundant work like an analyst and you get to face clients way more often with much more responsibility. Again you probably know about all of this more than me since all my info is from networking and from WSO and M&I. DCM is a path where your job will be relatively boring (although debatable since it is a fast paced environment and market based) at the analyst level but once you finally move up, you will be working 40-65 hours a week depending on your position and your job will be very client interaction heavy if that makes sense. Although, you shouldn’t go into DCM because it is relatively easier than coverage due to hours, but only if you are very interested in the debt market and see yourself enjoying a long term career in it. DCM is known to pigeonhole you from traditional IB exits so you have to choose carefully. Again you are already in the industry so you probably know all of this but I thought I would still share what I have learned as I have done a fair amount research into it. Please let me know your thoughts about the industry so far as I am very curious to hear your opinion.
