Best Groups at Morgan Stanley for Private Equity

Does anybody have any insight on the best groups at Morgan Stanley for Private Equity, particularly over the past few years. It would be great to get some color on some of the exits analysts have been able to make across the different groups recently. Thanks!

They’re all good and will put you in a similar position to recruit for MF PE. M&A is typically thought of as best and RE/FIG least desirable. However, multiple people from FIG over past few classes have gone to MF PE

Once you’re at MS, the time you put towards interview prep / networking will be far more important than your group.

M&A is considered best followed by MediaComm. After that it’s genuinely a toss up until you get to FIG/RE (unless you’re interested in those sectors). Again, the differences are in groups for PE recruiting is marginal at best (with exception of M&A). Every group sends people to MF PE and every group gives you a chance at MF PE

London: M&A obv. has great exits but you see lots of people staying for A2A. M&C is v strong too (TPG, Warburg, KKR etc.). HC is top too so exits are on par. Tech had a couple of good exits recently. GPUG had an early exit to BX RE as had Industrials (HF). Over the last couple of years RE had exits to Starwood among other shops incl. MS REPE. Most of the teams will set you up good for PE.
