Best IB exit for lazy people?

I will begin by saying I am quite lazy. I don’t know how I survived 4 years of IB. I recently quit and have been traveling the world. It’s quite nice, but I need money now.

I am in the beginning stages of starting a company, but I don’t think it will work out well because I have few tangible skills and, if we’re being honest, I’m quite lazy. I don’t think I have the work ethic… the blood, sweat, and tears… to build a business from the ground up.

I thought about VC, so I’m still in the startup ecosystem but not an operator. They are very competitive though.

I could do consulting, but that’s still a lot of work (and soul sucking).

Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should do with my life?

I am interested in money (staying at nice hotels, flying business class) and I like my girlfriend.

Thanks!

Do you say you're lazy because you don't like working 90h+ a week or feeling utterly unmotivated to do all the bs tasks that ultimately don't really matter? Not sure if that makes you lazy or just done with IB

I was feeling the same after 3y in BB IB and missed the times when i was actually motivated and excited to do things. I was just super burned out. I ended up transitioning into Strat finance role in a scale up and to be honest i think that was one of the best ideas. Comp is definitely not as high as IB but you still get pretty well paid cause these teams hire from IB / consulting so they would know what people are trading off.

I did do a brief stint in early stage VC cause i wasn't sure if maybe i missed out on the interesting buy side - but really didn't love it so made my case for start fin even stronger and thats where I came back to since. Worth considering. I wrote a lot about my experience in strat fin / non traditional IB exits in my substack "Off track, by design".

Regardless, worth considering generally corporate roles that hire ex IB - lifestyle better, money still decent and gives you space to breath.
