Best laptop for virtual desktop?

I was wondering what laptop I should get for WFH where the company uses a virtual desktop? Still a 16GB RAM Lenovo thinkpad? I've got a 5 year old HP laptop at the moment with 8gb RAM and it's HDD only so really painfully slow and dated, and I can't really do proper work on a Macbook... Any tips? I don't want to break the bank by spending £1000+ really on a laptop that will be using the virtual desktop anyway, but I also don't want one that is sluggish and slow for when out of it... A nice screen would be nice too (AMOLED e.g.).

Any tips?

Thanks :)

I set up a full WFH setup for a family member of mine right when COVID hit for $1000 including a small desktop and 3x 24" monitors. They were able to have essentially the same BBG setup that they had at the office and were entirely unrestricted.

I suggest you follow a similar path.

Depending on how tech-savvy you are, depending on the specs of the HP laptop you could breathe a lot of life into it with a new SSD for less than $100. You could also upgrade to 16gb for $100 as well

I always recommend building your own PC. You can get something that will blow most laptops out of the water for a fraction of the cost.

That said, if you're stuck on a laptop, any mid-tier windows laptop will do. Like you said, you're running a VDI so you'll be limited to the bandwidth your bank allocates to each VDI instance, not your actual PC specs. 16gb ram will be standard across most mid-range laptops.
