Bloomberg Job Description - Assholes!

An unemployed buddy of mine sent this along. I thought it was hilarious. Its a job description for an opportunity with Bloomberg.

Bloomberg Job Description Qualifications & Experience

•Previous experience in capital markets with a strong working knowledge of the Bloomberg terminal is required. Unfortunately, we are not considering individuals in investment banking, research, private wealth, nor corporate finance for this specific position.

Maybe they've already selected the person they want to hire, but have to post due to HR guidelines. So they just change the job description and requirements to suit this one candidate.

It's a common practice in the public sector...sad to see Bloomberg stoop this low.

lorican"Previous experience in capital markets", so who does that leave then?

Just my 2c.

Perhaps they meant "Previous experience in Sales & Trading required. IBD? Research? AM? No thanks."

Guessing that also includes analytics, client product support (IE: if you worked on one of the index teams at various firms), and the quants/strats guys in addition to sales and trading.

If you have previous experience on an analytics system at, say, JP Morgan, you're qualified for about 95% of the jobs at Bloomberg that have something to do with the product you supported.

Don't see why this is a surprise. Many positions at Bloomberg are analytics and quantitative positions. While putting deals together is very helpful experiences in many places, Bloomberg is probably looking for more of a background that involves hands-on experience with financial products- something that involves more of an S&T, quant, or analytics background.

There are plenty of positions that bankers are qualified for that S&T folks aren't qualified for. So don't feel too bad if you're a banker.
