Bloomberg Skills for IB?

Hi all,

I was wondering what level of BloomBerg (terminal) skills one might need coming as a BB analyst/associate? What are those daily (or frequent) operations with Bloomberg does one use for a banking job? And what other information system (capital IQ, for example) experience is helpful too?

Thank you.

CapIQ, Factset, ThomsonOne, Thomson Analytics are all useful

Bloomberg use is not crucial but its good to get furtures curve prices, credit reports, etc

I'm pretty sure that the bank will train you on BB during your first week. Apart from that, you can always ask fellow interns and analysts if there is something you can't find. Also, there is always the BB help key which is a life saver when you don't want to look like an idiot,

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

Bloomberg has amazing information, but the the way it presents it and the way it exports it are huge drawbacks. Not particularly user-friendly, as mentioned above. Does BB offer some sort of product that is cut from the mold of CapIQ, FactSet, etc.? They should venture into that business -- I think it would be wildly successful. Guess it would basically remove the need for BB terminals, but nonetheless...

CapIQ is awesome for comps and company info. Bloomberg is something you really just need to log hours on to truly appreciate. I sat on a terminal every day for my internship and absolutely love it. FactSet is great, but a lot of students don't get exposure to it at school. Reuters Plus is good also since a lot of places will have that along side or as an alternative to Bloomberg.

Never used Thompson, but thanks for the mention guys. I will put it on my list of things to start getting comfortable with. Oh, Moodys is great to be familiar with also.
