BNP Paribas Analyst

Got unlucky with my summer internship where no returns were given and we were notified pretty late in the process for FT recruiting. Managed to land a spot at BNP Paribas, not M&A though. Is this a dead end or is there potential to lateral into M&A when the market gets a bit better? Seems like the company is trying to build out a presence in the US too which could be exciting.

Any insights on firm culture, bonuses, perks, and exit ops?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, BNP Paribas is a solid choice. They're the most established French Bank in the US, and they're the largest bank in France. People exit to PE and other great opportunities from BNP all the time.

In terms of culture, BNP is pretty good compared to other French Banks. They also have espresso machines, and you get a lot of vacation days.

As for your question about lateraling into M&A, it's definitely possible. The market is always changing, and there could be opportunities in the future.

Remember, every experience is what you make of it. Even if it's not your first choice, there's always something to learn and ways to grow. Keep your eyes open for opportunities, network within the firm, and make the most of your time there.

As for bonuses and perks, I don't have specific information on that. But based on BNP's reputation, they should be competitive.

In terms of exit opportunities, I've seen people move from BNP to PE and other high finance roles. So, there's definitely potential for you to do the same.

Remember, the key is to make the most of your current role, learn as much as you can, and network effectively. Good luck!

What role? bonuses will be likely slightly lower than street, and exit opps below those of major US-based MM competition. Lateral into M&A internally or externally is doable, but other candidates with M&A specific technical experience will be preferred
