Boutique IB or Middle Office Internal Lateral to IB

I'm currently at a BB (think JPM/BOA/Citi) working on their commercial credit team. I want to eventually make the transition to BB IB, but have an end goal in sports PE or the distressed debt space.

I have the opportunity to work at a boutique IB that has done some heavy-hitting deals in the entertainment space. I'm conflicted on whether I should seriously pursue that opportunity or try to lateral internally at my BB. My BB bank seems to really encourage moving within the firm but I hear going from MO to FO can be really challenging.

Thoughts?
