I thought I was going to get 10k but they said 3k because I live pretty close to NYC already and I know my expenses will be atleast 5k to move. Can I negotiate that up at a BB? I have a call with HR regarding relocation assistance tomorrow, should I try? Or will It make me look bad?
Could push and ask a softball like "is that standard or is based off location / other factors". Then unless they say standard you can say "ok I was just inquiring because I've got the moved priced out and it was coming in closer to ~5k and then shut up and see what they say.
Two points to consider 1) its probably not worth creating a shit storm over 2k 2) 5k seems like a lot to move within New York?
Yeah agreed it’s prob not worth really arguing over but its a lot less than I expected I guess and yeah when you factor putting down a deposit on an apartment + new appliances if your apartment isn’t furnished it can come to 5k pretty quickly.
The number is a bit low, and I would address it as the other poster said. I wouldn’t bring up deposit or new appliances. 1) new appliances are almost never needed in nyc - where are you moving to? Seems odd 2) a deposit is just a hold, not an expense of moving, you get that money back.
But again, $3k is a bit low as a “signing” bonus, most relocation packages are bigger (and can be significantly more robust as you get more senior).
Lol what, I thought this stuff only happens at really unstructured smaller boutique places. How's this even possible for all the analysts not to get the same 10k lmfao
They said they do it based off of location and since I’m like 3 hours away it’s less? Idk I guess I’ll get more insight when I talk to the actual relocation person
I'm an incoming analyst at a BB in NYC and I didn't even get a sign-on bonus lol. Just a relocation bonus of $5K (pre-tax), which I haven't received yet despite starting work in less than a week

wow who knew BBs could be so cheap

Are you not IB? I've never heard of this otherwise.

Ok this made me feel better, I guess they’re cutting back on the relocation bonuses this year
Update: I’d have to go through my manager and request a higher amount. Idk if it’s worth all the trouble lol
I'm surprised. Usually BBs give you 10K or like 7K grossed up for taxes.
We all realize that buying furniture and appliances aren’t moving expenses right
Im in the same situation. Moving to another state and they’re giving 10k I think its so low
If you aren’t senior what is so low about it? Movers will cost a couple thousand. What else are you concerned about?
