Centerview Partners- overview perks and culture

HI WSO I was recently beginning to think about recruiting as a rising sophomore and was wondering what makes Centerview Partners such a coveted firm (outside of comp) like can people explain the culture and perks of working there. Thank you so much

Controversial

private chef/barista for breakfast and lunch, generous WFH policy, lean teams, accounts-based staffing, 100 dollar dinner stipend, not publicly traded, ubers to/from office, just a general treatment as a professional rather than a piece of shit

wtf a 100 dollar dinner stipend? i thought all banks on the street pretty much averaged around 30~35

Honestly it is a good question. The candidate has to provide a diplomatic, apolitical opinion by putting yourself in your clients shoes.

You may not agree with everything a company/organization you advise does, but you have to be able to help them tactically/strategically/whatever if you want to make money, which is what Centerview wants to do. While Effron is moderately liberal, they've had town halls with conservatives and have plenty of conservative sr bankers too

I've spoken to a few people who worked at Centerview in the past and apparently the account based staffing could absolutely destroy you if you get bad accounts. "Lean" teams is also code name for understaffed and having to take responsibilities above your pay grade or working with little guidance.

Centerview's high comp is 100% true, along with perks, and is a great place to learn especially if you want to be a career banker. But expect a crushing workload during deal times, especially if you are assigned a very demanding client.

agree but big picture it’s great for building a relationship with those accounts. Say you’ve been working on an account for 15 years and the lead MD retires, you now have a strong relationship with that client. There’s obviously drawbacks but I think it’s a pretty effective strategy and am surprised more places don’t do it.

Everyone loves CVP because it reportedly has highest cash comp on the street for IBD by far (except maybe Q) … and none of us got into banking because we hate the thought of making moolah. All the rest is secondary imho.
