What are the general thoughts on CIBC Cleary Gull? Seems like a solid shop with good deal flow in the Midwest and should do well under the CIBC name. Hours? Pay? Reputation? Any input would be helpful

Shouts Milwaukee, very undercover city and great COL
Could not agree more--have a buddy at Baird and have visited a couple times. Milwaukee is dope--crazy low COL, fun town.
Milwaukee-based, interesting to see how they will do going forward and how the CIBC acquisition has affected the pay, deal flow, and hours.
talked with some people in the team, pretty nice culture
Very lower middle market. They have one MD that is a rainmaker, the rest are puppets and some of them try way too hard. They struggle in competitive pitches with any MM, but can win some LMM mandates in areas they have done deals.
To be clear, it's not even in the same zip code as Baird, but better than some of those other Milwaukee "IBs" that are really glorified business brokers.
Aside from Baird, Chicago and Minny banks pick up most of the good WI-based mandates.
Just to pick the mind of a VP. Where do draw the line of a "very LMM" and a Business Broker? Average Deal size ~20M?
Probably a bit higher than that for CG (would guess $20-$40mm sweet spot, but they've done $100+mm). Business brokers are really $10mm or less. CG is better than other no names in MKE that have never sniffed a $50mm deal, but those fill in the gap.
