Citi Background Check

Hi everyone! I have an offer for SA Analyst in IB at Citi which is subject to background check clearance. Does anybody know how long it takes for the process to be completed? What does it entail? Also would appreciate any insight into group placement process. Thank you!

The background check process for Citi, particularly in the EMEA region, typically involves verifying your employment history, academic qualifications, and conducting criminal record checks. Based on previous WSO threads, Citi EMEA often uses First Advantage as their vendor for background checks. The process usually begins shortly after you sign the written offer, but the exact timing can vary depending on your start date and the region.

Timeline:

  • The background check process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on the complexity of your profile and how quickly the required documents are provided.

What It Entails:

  1. Employment Verification: Confirming your previous work experience.
  2. Academic Verification: Checking your educational qualifications.
  3. Criminal Record Check: Ensuring no legal issues that could affect your employment.
  4. Reference Checks: Contacting references you’ve provided.
  5. Credit Check (in some cases): To assess financial responsibility.

Group Placement Process:

For group placement, Citi often conducts placement events or discussions closer to the start date. These can resemble "speed dating" sessions where you meet with different teams to find a mutual fit. However, the exact process may vary by region and division. Networking with current analysts or associates in your desired group can also help you secure a spot.

If you’re proactive and prepared, you’ll navigate both the background check and group placement smoothly. Good luck with your SA Analyst role!

Not at Citi, but my SA background check took like 2 weeks to get back maybe? You should be fine so no need to stress unless you’ve been capping about a bunch of internships / graduating HS.
