Clubs at UChicago - Any Advice from Alums?

Wondering if there are any UChicago alums who could give some wisdom on the best clubs/RSOs to join for business/finance. Mainly I'm looking at IB post grad, but also potentially PE / non-quant HF (if possible). Might also at some point become interested in non-finance roles like consulting ... hard to tell whether my interests will stay the same over the next 4 years.

From what I understand TBC, Maroon Capital, UIBG, Eickhart are some of the big ones. Any clubs in particular you'd recommend, and any pointers on how a freshman could get into them (heard they are pretty selective)? Also interested in the culture of any clubs you've been in (is the club solely focused on grinding finance/business or is it kind of a social group as well)?

Really appreciate your advice!

recent undergrad from uchicago here. you seem to have a good grasp on good clubs to try to join during your first year. i'm too lazy to get into all of the intricacies of the niche uchicago preprofessional world, but i will say you should try to get into these clubs, get to know their application processes/what to prepare, and if you get into at least one of them you should be pretty set. i will also say, if you're interested in greek life that is an underrated way to get into these types of roles since a shit ton of people in frats/srats go into finance and consulting. honestly at uchicago it's pretty easy to get these jobs without being in a really prestigious finance RSO

Graduated from UChicago here.

Literally just apply to all of them. All of them have more or less great people with a pre-professional focus. Find the ones where you get in, where you like the people, and the ones where you can expand your career. My personal experience, I got into a couple of the clubs on-campus and now I'm going FT into a top BB group

First, you're so early in this process that it actually amazes me that you know about RSOs. Yes, there's recruitment in autumn quarter of your first year, but many clubs will also have winter/spring recruitment cycles because they understand that not everyone who steps on UChicago is ready to dive into the pre-professional programs. I didn't even know about RSOs until I stepped onto campus, and I only really applied during the winter cycle.

Second, I've seen through your post history that almost all of it is about UChicago's placement.

Dude, take a chill pill. Enjoy your time with your high school friends. From my personal experience, UChicago is a grind, and that can wait. Even more ridiculous, you're not even in college yet. Enjoy second semester senior year. It's something I didn't have, and something I regret.

I can also guarantee you the one thing that makes you get rejected from every RSO is solely being a try-hard. You're at UChicago, everyone here is a try-hard, but we value kids who can also chill. Universally, almost everyone hates kids who non-stop talk about recruitment and work.

Have fun in the Reg bud.
