Cold Email or LinkedIn?

Hi guys, wanted to hear opinions on what people think is more effective to get coffee chats/phone calls. I have read some people like LinkedIn more whereas others like emailing. Which one is ideal? Also wondering if there would there be a difference between US and UK/Europe norms too? Thanks

Cold email.  Bankers get hammered on LinkedIn — but do not spam someone multiple times if they don’t reply.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, both cold emailing and LinkedIn messaging can be effective, but their success often depends on the context, the region, and the target audience.

Key Insights:

  1. Cold Email vs. LinkedIn:

    • Cold Email:
      • Emails are often preferred for senior professionals, especially in the US, as they may not check LinkedIn frequently.
      • Emails allow for a more formal and professional tone, which can be ideal for initial outreach.
      • Use tools like Hunter.io to find corporate email formats and ensure your email is concise (5-8 sentences max) with a clear subject line like "Informational Interview Request" (https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forum/job-search/13-networking-tips-and…</a">source).
    • LinkedIn:
  2. Regional Differences:

    • US Norms:
      • Cold emailing is widely accepted and often more effective for professionals in the US.
      • Phone calls and coffee chats are common follow-ups after initial contact.
    • UK/Europe Norms:

Recommendations:

  • For senior professionals: Start with a cold email, as it’s more formal and direct.
  • For younger professionals: LinkedIn can be a good starting point, especially if they are active on the platform.
  • In Europe: LinkedIn might be more effective initially, but follow up with email for a more professional touch.
  • Always personalize your outreach, keep it concise, and focus on building a relationship rather than immediately asking for favors.

If you’re still unsure, consider testing both methods and tracking response rates to see what works best for your target audience!
