Cold Quitting
Thinking about quitting without notice. Honestly fuck these people. No WLB, constant mental torment. Maybe I’m a pussy, maybe IB is for psychopaths.

Career Resources
Just did this shortly after lateraling to another bank in NYC. Was pretty clear that it wasn’t going to work out very early on. Terrified I just threw away my career but I guess we will see.
In a process right now and explained the situation to a senior guy. Surprisingly, he was pretty chill about it and ended up moving me forward so that’s reassuring?
How did this turn out?
Lateral market for banking and other roles has been brutal. Ended up taking a role at a sponsor-backed company mostly for optics as I was able to negotiate a nice title. Didn't work out exactly how I anticipated but could be worse. Big pay cut from banking but remote and work half the hours so I guess not terrible?
You might have to give notice by law though so be careful
No you don’t. In US, we have employment at will. The company and employee can both bail at any moment without notice.
Yep exactly. I read that clause in my employment agreement and would feel no remorse for just leaving. If they want to reserve the right to can my ass at any moment I’ll just leave.
I strongly recommend either taking a leave of absence or just dragging ass until you find another job instead. cold quitting could be tough to explain even outside of banking
Another user mentioned this but if you feel early on that this company is just not a fit you should absolutely quit early on because it’s much tougher to explain something not working out when you’re six months into the job.
I don't understand what you mean? Quitting after six months is not really any different than quitting after two months. They're both abnormally short stints
If someone just cold quit their last job with nothing lined up, there are going to be several big red flags. Why couldn't this person tough it out until they found something else? Will they do that to me? Is he or she flaky/moody/crazy/difficult to work with? Howd they even end up in this spot - do they have bad judgment?
If you don't find another gig soon enough, you might have to take a shitty role you hate even more just to end the stint of unemployment
It could still make sense to quit a job if it's taking a big enough toll on your well being. But be sure you appreciate how this could impact your career for the near term
Congrats on UBS!
