Commercial Banking to IB

Incoming analyst at a top BB (BoA, JPM, Citi) going into my first rotation in the credit side. Does anyone know or have strategies of making the jump to the Investment Bank whether is it externally or internally.

Besides lev fin, is there other groups that would be an easier transition from commercial banking skills.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Traditionally it's the other way around. IB folks looking to retire. Full time it's difficult. You need to spend at least 6-9 months on that side before convincing anyone it's not for you. Also keep in mind the lateral market. Even within a firm it might be dead depending on where you are. View the other threads.

Career commercial banker here, just take a breath and chill out. Learn everything you can in your current job, master the skills, and enjoy the journey. Learn the landscape of the bank and things will become clear to you in time. I realize that nobody wants to wait for anything anymore - but too bad. No substitute for experience so just do what they want you to do, do it better than all the other monkeys in your cohort, and don't be a dick. Everyone with experience is smarter than you and you can learn from them. Do so. People will notice and you can write your own ticket if you deserve it.

And also accept the fact that you may not want to move into the IB once you get started. See other comments about Commercial banking being a much better WLB that can still compensate you handsomely. Keep an open mind. Equally likely you may say gtfo to commercial banking and it increases your motivation to get to IB. Either outcome is a positive.

Would you mind sharing what the starting comp looks like for an entry level credit analyst in commercial at a big 5 bank in a major city?
