IB IN INDIA

WHAT TO CHOOSE DOMESTIC IB BANK IN MUMBAI VS BB IN MUMBAI

INDIAN MARKETS HAVE BEEN HEAVILY RULED BY DOMESTIC PLAYERS(AVENDUS,ICICI,SBI CAP,NOVA DHRUVA,JM FIN) BUT BB(BARCLAY,CITI,CB,JPM) HAVE THEIR OWN PRESTIGE AND FELL GOOD FACTOR.

I WANT TO GO FOT M7 MBA

SO DOMESTIC BANK(GREAT DEAL EXP)VS BB IBD(GREAT PRESTIGE)

SPECIFICALLY FOR IND MKTS.I WANT TO DO MBB POST  MBA IN NORTH AMERICA ON H1B OR OTP.

I COULDNT LAND MBB GIG IN INDIA IB IS THE ONLY GREAT OPTION REST ARE SHITTY CORP FIN GIGS

Have you gone through MBA admissions or are you just making this up? MBA admissions could care less where you worked before. ~0% of MBAs (not sponsored by their current companies) will return to their old company. The only reason where you work would make a difference is in how polished you are as a candidate, how focused your career goals are, and how polished your recommendation might be.

as i have mentioned that i just graduated and got ib offer but in next 5 years i want a m7 mba so i dont know shit bout b school admission process thats why i am asking to carefully plan things out well in advance

Why are you so confident in saying shit that's wrong? Where you work makes a huge difference for admissions AND for recruiting. And not because of fluff bullshit about "focused career goals" or polished recommendations.

Have a few friends who went to iim a and iim b. They were in a similar position, some of them just a couple of months ago. Everybody who had interviews from the likes of avendus and the international bulge brackets, took international BBs. The reason they gave me were better pay and better deal, not to mention the ease of getting transferred to other geographies. So this should give you an idea.

When it comes to m7 admissions, it's international BB hands down. No need to look back twice on this.

There's a huge difference within the list of Bulge Brackets and Domestic Banks. For example, Avendus is way better than say CS or Barclays for m&a but you can't say the same for Equirus or Axis. Teams matter a lot too - massive difference between the D&T team at Avendus and the other teams or the Infra team at Ambit and the other teams. It would be better to be more specific.

On the other hand, I find your plan to be not well thought out. Indian bankers is a ridiculous competitive bucket for M7 admission. I don't think IB experience will be particularly more helpful for MBB recruiting either when compared to a decent corp fin gig. Also, corp finance isn't shitty - the work/life balance really gets to you sometimes - it's all about what you want from life.

Lastly, I hope you have a few offers before asking this questions. It's ridiculously difficult getting an IB offer in India so at most times you don't have much of an option. The pandemic just makes it worse.

Wish you the best

I have to disagree with you on two points here, from my experience.

  1. If you are going to apply to m7 from India, banking is one of the best backgrounds you can go from. Can't think of any other role that could be more advantageous.
  1. The notion that a Corp finance gig is better than banking, to land mbb after m7 is just not right. With or without mba, going to consulting from banking is much much easier than going from Corp finance / Corp development.

Well I agree with you lol. It's not like Europe where English is someone's second language to make mistakes and be fine with it. The guy says he's from the number 1 school in india and has this poor communication skills, let alone the absolute obnoxiousness of the entire post and the comment section.

I left india a few years ago as well, but I can assure you not a lot of people are like this haha

Quick question: I am an Indian male studying at the undergrad level in the US at a non-target and plan on applying to M7 in 3-4 years (so that I can get another 3 years of OPT). I have an IB internship lined up at WB/HL/JEF in one of their top groups. Plan on returning to the firm if I get an FT offer but was wondering how I will be compared to Indians from India applying for M7 admissions in the US.
