Corporate Banking Analyst 1 Final Interview with MDs
I have a final round new grad AN1 interview for corporate banking at an American BB at their foreign office (think London or HK). I came in with an internship from a MM M&A IB shop. I wasn't asked any technicals during the 2nd round with VP and Associates.
Final round is with MDs from two different groups and the head MD for 30 minutes each. One MD is from RM another is from PM. What kind of questions should I be expecting at this level, I assume mostly behavioural again?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know for your final round interview with MDs for a Corporate Banking Analyst role:
Behavioral Questions:
Since you weren't asked technicals in the second round, it's likely the MDs will focus on behavioral and situational questions to assess your fit, personality, and ability to handle high-pressure situations. Examples include:
Relationship Management (RM) Focus:
The MD from RM may ask questions related to client interaction and relationship-building skills, such as:
Portfolio Management (PM) Focus:
The MD from PM might focus on your understanding of credit risk, portfolio management, and analytical skills. While technicals may not dominate, you should be prepared for questions like:
High-Level Fit and Strategy Questions:
The head MD may focus on your long-term goals and alignment with the firm's culture and strategy. Questions could include:
Preparation Tips:
Good luck! Remember, MDs are looking for someone who is not only technically capable but also a strong cultural fit and eager to contribute to the team.

How did it end up going?
All three interviews with the MDs ended up being very conversational. I think I did well and two MDs both said at the end something along the lines of "job market is rough so if we don't take you this time, let's keep in touch." Been a week and no offer, going to assume I got dinged.
Did you follow up with anybody on the team? Maybe they’re just slow, had a similar situation with Wells a while ago but ended up hearing back 2 weeks later
Followed up today with the MDs that mentioned we should stay in touch, no response as of yet. Do you think it would be wise to follow up with VP and the HR contact as well?
Yeah not losing out on much by following up with them, could have some delays in getting back to candidates but better to know earlier
