Coverage to Product Group Question

Recently landed a SA 2021 spot at a low tier bulge bracket. It is for their tech coverage group, who do not do M&A within the coverage group, but instead have a separate M&A team (who they sit right next to). I'm a non-target with no alumni at the bank, how do I go about figuring out whether it is possible for me to get in with the M&A team. I am hesitant to bring this question up with my contacts as I don't want them to get the wrong idea, thus I was hoping to get some advice on how to bring it up, and get a better sense of the interaction between the two teams?
