CS employee, how to network??

So I’m still working at CS but quite clearly my team will be let go soon.

Given so many of my (to be unemployed) colleagues will be competing for the same jobs, how do I get ahead?

I don’t have a lot of close friends in the industry, but I was told to “network aggressively”.

Problem is, who do I network with? I’m thinking those working at other banks who are 3years or so more senior than me make the most sense, as we dont have conflict of interest and also they may have a say who to hire.

Also in general, is it a good idea yo linkedlin message all of your potential employers, be it the MD/D/VP bankers or HRs?

Do your best with the networking and definitely try to grow that way. Linkedin is fine, but make sure your trying to make authentic connections on Linkedin and not just to get a referral.

Just being cynical here:

If I’m an employer here, knowing there are gonna be some many supplies of employees in the markets, I would wait and see and wont rush to give out offers.

Therefore just thinking even if I get “ahead” of others by aggressively networking, it wont move the needle.

So might as well take my time….

Fyi I know at least 20 people who got fired recently at other firms in the past few months and they still have not found a job.

Also a few of my ex collegues who got fired couldnt find anything yet for a few months already.
