CS LA vs. CS NY
Is it true that CS LA is better in terms of deal flow and reputation than CS NY? Are there any other banks whose west coast offices trump their NY offices?

Maybe Wells Fargo because they are based out of San Fran, but not 100% sure.
This is wrong. Wells Fargo's HQ is based out of SF, but there is a very small IB group based out of SF. There IB is headquartered out of Charlotte. I believe the only groups that have a presence in SF is TMT, M&A and gaming.
Was it always like that or did it shift after the Wachovia acquisition?

Moelis started in LA by poaching a good chunk of UBS LA, which was fantastic until that point. Their best bankers are still out that way.
