Yes, if you failed an interview

You arent special. Do you know how many people will have “referrals”? You aren’t the only one buddy but spaces are limited.

You get assessed by a lot of people - HR, analysts, associates, VPs etc

If at least one doesn’t like you, you won’t get an offer. Why? Because there are so many applicants (who will also have referrals) that they will surely find a bunch who everyone will like

 

As long as you were able to give a proper answer at the end, you will be fine even if you didn't have a strong start. But I would say that the hirevue is more important than a referral. Referrals are mainly to get you an interview, and after that it's up to you and based on your own ability.
