Depressed and tired of it all

This is too draining and difficult, I don't know where to go from here, and I'm not even sure I'll be able to make it to the 1-year mark. I miss everyone and feel like I'm losing my sense of self. Does anyone feel the same? Lonely at work, and just unable to fit in. Add to that, little guidance from seniors. Don't feel appreciated at all.

Hey, thank you man...it sucks so bad. Yeah just a normal BB, people think I made it but yet I feel so down, hopefully it gets better when more of my team is out during December.

I've been in dark depressing times while on the job and still have my days where I hate it and feel very down but what has helped me a lot is just taking it 1 night at a time. (I count days by nights since we work so late and I just try to survive till I am able to close my eyes in bed and forget about work for a few hours). Try to focus on just today and tonight. Dont worry about what staffing might come tomorrow or what you gotta do later in the week. 1 night at a time, focus on getting to Friday night where you can log off and enjoy a Saturday. On Saturday if you have it protected, you MUST go out and do stuff and stay busy. Anything to not focus on work. This isn't going to make banking better and get out of a depression forever but it has helped me. The job sucks as the industry sucks and it's not for everyone. Dont let consume you and get out if you need to. Tons of things you can do and still live a comfortable life. I am getting out after summer 2023 bonus and till then, just one night at a time

I feel you dude. Been in this grind for about 2 years and it sucks. What’s helped me is spending time with the people I care about, friends and family. Makes you realize there’s more to life than this nonsense and eventually you’ll find something more fulfilling. Stay strong!

In the same boat. Recently made the jump to the buyside after 2 years in banking and realizing it’s not much different. Happy to grab a coffee

For the most part, IB / PE will be pretty similar, it’s thankless grunt work. Don’t worry about being the office favorite or having it all be perfection. You make a ton of money for your age; if you do a decent job, you can stay on and get promoted every three years.  See it as a means to finance your future and current lifestyle. It’s always a means to an end. Honestly looking at it this way helped me.

Brotha this is a helpful mindset shift so thank u for this. In terms of "office favorites" or office politics in general, I come from an AA immigrant background non-target and I've fully accepted that I will not outpace my ivy peers who played Lax on the same team as my VP / ED.

But I am curious: these skills of being an "office favorite" are imperative to the overarching goal of gaining power / influencing others—skills you need to be successful in business broadly. How do you deal with this. Really bothers me that I am creating this ceiling in my head
