Did I fuck up my RX networking already???

Rising sophomore at a target and I have a buddy who recently graduated connect me to one of his close friends working at PJT/EVR RX. Call was going well and I was feeling myself until it ended... I was super excited and thought the dude had already left the call and ended up giving one of those flight reacts tongue out face shakes. turns out he was still in the zoom. didn't say anything but immediately left right after. am i fucked??

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like you might have had an awkward moment, but it’s not necessarily a dealbreaker. Professionals in the industry are human too, and while the situation might feel embarrassing, it’s unlikely to completely ruin your chances if the rest of the call went well. Here’s what you can do to recover:

  1. Follow Up with a Thank You Email: Send a polite and professional thank-you email. Acknowledge the call, express gratitude for their time, and reiterate your interest in RX. Keep it concise and professional—don’t bring up the awkward moment unless they do.

  2. Don’t Overthink It: While it might feel like a big deal to you, the professional might not have thought much of it. They’re likely busy and focused on other things.

  3. Learn from the Experience: Use this as a reminder to stay composed until the call is completely over. It’s a small but valuable lesson for future networking interactions.

  4. Keep Networking: Don’t let this one moment discourage you. Continue building connections and reaching out to others in the industry.

You’re not “fucked,” but how you handle the follow-up and move forward will matter. Keep your head up and stay professional!
