Disability Questions

I had some questions on if any of you marked yourselves disabled via the form you sign when hired. Essentially I’ve had a disability for many years but I’ve not ever disclosed it given it’s never felt like a hinderance until now. Now I am thinking of going back and marking disabled, but have a lot of questions on it.

  1. What actual benefits does that even have? I know legally they have to accommodate but what can they even do? Given timelines I doubt they’d grant extra time
  2. Does your firm or team look at you differently? I know legally they can’t but obviously it will play into decision making
  3. How does this all play out when cuts come? Obviously they cannot fire you because you are disabled but does that lead to safety because of potential lawsuits or easier firing because of “poor performance”
  4. How does this differ between physical and mental disabilities?

Thanks y’all, appreciate the time
